October 28 Random Stuff!!!First off I'll start with my quick review of Saw III which I managed to catch last night. While it wasn't as good as the first one but definately better than the second one. I don't know how they keep coming up with these new "games" for the victims to play but they do. It had quite the ending too. As with the other ones, this movie is definately not for the squeamish as I think they may have actually found a way to increase the level of violence.
As I'm sure you all know, Halloween is upon us (Smithers..hang the decoration) and that means its time for horror movies (although for me any time of the year is time for horror movies). I plan on watching as many as I can before Tuesday with Halloween being my choice for Tuesday night. It's a bit of a tradition for me. I watched Slither earlier this week since it was released on DVD. Some of you who have been visiting my little corner of the web here since I started it in February may remember me doing a review it back in March after seeing it in the theatre. It's just as good as I remember.
On the gaming front, I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance and I am just loving it. This game is a lot of fun. There are so many characters to choose from. Unfortunately a good number of them have to be unlocked while I thought they were unlocked to beging with. That's ok though. I haven't had a chance to play it online in co-op yet but I can't wait to do so.
Last weekend I also took advantage of Gametap's 1/2 price subscription offer and it is fantastic. There are soooo many games to play from Atari to Arcade to PC to Genesis and more including a lot of my favourites from my youth. I seriously recommend this service to anyone who has a broadband connection. I would recommend though that you have some sort of a controller for it. I'm using a wired 360 controller.
I've also started playing Guitar Hero again in anticipation of Guitar Hero II which should be out in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to get that nice cherry red guitar. I'm also really looking forward to playing some co-op as well. This is a game that I think everyone should at least try out. It also helps that I love rock music. I'm just not very good at the game. Cowboys From Hell is one of my favourties songs but it kicks my ass.
Well I guess that's it for now. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween if I don't post again before hand and please remember to keep an eye out for kiddies trick or treating if you should happen to be driving home from work at the time. October 22 The Weekend...They always go by way to fast.I haven't really posted a blog of what I've been up to in a while so I thought I should. This weekend I really didn't do all that much. Friday night I watched the Leafs beat the Columbus Blue Jackets nicely only to see them lose to the New York Rangers the next night. Booo!!!! I also rented Mortal Kombat Armageddon for the PS2 since it's not BC on the 360 yet. So far it's not a bad game. More or less the same from every other fighter, but still fun.
Yesterday (Saturday) I went and saw The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. I already knew I loved this movie but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to catch it in 3D. Disney did a fantastic job transferring it to 3D. Much better than the 3D scenes in Superman Returns. I also watched the movie Over the Hedge. It wasn't too bad for a kids movie. The animation was really well done. I can see why Dreamworks Animation stayed on its own and wasn't sold to Paramount with the rest of Dreamworks SKG.
I also tried out the demo for Rainbow Six Vegas that was included with the latest OXM. I must say that I really enjoyed it. I may have to pick this game up in November. I was going to only get Gears of War and Guitar Hero II but this may need to be added to the list. The graphics were nice although I did notice some slow down, the controls were good and the sound was amazing. I also tried out the demo for GHII that was with the latest OPM. Man do I need to practice at that game again. I was never very good at it but now I'm even worse. It's a hell of a lot of fun though. Great music.
Finally in gaming news, I decided to get Lumines Live. I don't know if I'll be buying all the other expansion things for it, but I am enjoying the basic package.
As far as today goes, I went to see the Buffalo Bills play the New England Patriots at Ralph Wilson Stadium just outside of Buffalo, NY. I love going to NFL games as I'm a huge football fan but the Bills really stunk it out today. Which is too bad as it was a perfect day for football in Western NY. I.e. it was cool and rainy. No snow thankfully. I saw some of the damage caused by last week's freak snow storm and I am really impressed with how well they've cleaned it up so far.
Well that was my exciting weekend. Hope you all had a good one. I'm sure ICandee did though. :) October 15 Movie Reviews: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, The Departed and The MarineI see it's been a little while since I've posted anything. I've just been busy with some other stuff. So today I thought I'd post reviews for a few movies I've seen over the past couple weeks.
1) Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
For anyone who doesn't know, this is a prequel to the remake they did a few years ago but I actually enjoyed it more than the remake. It wasn't a great movie and it definately pushed the limits on gore but I did find it entertaining overall. The acting was on a level you would expect for this type of movie. This is definately a movie for horror fans to see. However, Saw III is coming up and I think that will be the horror movie to see this fall. I know I can't wait to see it.
2) The Departed While I did enjoy the movie, I found it ran a little longer than it really needed to. The performances were all as good as could have been expected. It had a great blend of drama and humour. Alec Baldwin was definately one of the high points of the movie. The ending was interesting to say the least.
3) The Marine
This movie stars current WWE Champion John Cena in what is more or less a throwback to the old style Schwarzenegger/Stallone movies from the 80s and early 90s. While this was definately a rather cheesy movie overall it did have some good action sequences and Robert Patrick was fantastic as the over the top villain. He was hilarious. This movie is for those times when you've had a rough day and need some good escapism. October 02 Doom Baby!!!As I'm sure most of you are aware, one of the best and most controversial first person shooters of all time has returned to us. That's right, Doom was released on the XBLA last week for a cool 800MP. I of course snapped this up the minute I could. I've had a chance to play through some of the single player and it just as fun as I remember. Although I must admit it's a little weird not being able to look up when I want to like you can in today's FPSes. However, the 5.1 audio is just fantastic. The "enhanced graphics" though leave a lot to be desires as the game looks the same as it always has in my eyes. That is just fine by me though. When I play a classic game, I want the classic experience.
I've also had a chance to play some co-op and deathmatch with the gang. That was a lot of fun. We had 4 of us playing the game on Nightmare and man that is exactly what it was. Stupid enemies wouldn't stop spawning. Nothing I could do about it. Unbelievable. Still, it was a lot of fun. I highly recommend that anyone and everyone go out and get this game right away. Totally worth the 800MP if not just for the nostalgia of it all. Hopefully they bring Doom II around soon. |
