    Sean's Top Games of 2006

This has been a great year for gaming.  With the Xbox 360 in full swing mode and two more systems out before the end of the year, we gamers have had a lot of choices this year.  The year started off rather slow with not too many games being released in January and February, but March was a monster month with two huge games being released (GRAW and Oblivion) and some other ones as well (i.e. Far Cry Predator Instinct).   The rest of the year so many good games come out, mainly of course during the last quarter.  I now present to you my top games of the year in alphabetical order.  I'll keep my comments brief

    Chromehounds

This game took me by surprise in the summer.  Me and the TB group played the shit out of this.  It's one of the few games this year that we have all really gotten into.  There were some nights where we'd have 6 or 7 of us even still playing it at 2:00 a.m.  Just good times.

    Gears of War

I think this one was pretty obvious.  From the graphics to the sound to the story, I enjoyed this game from top to bottom.  The online play may not have been that deep, but it was fun none the less.

    Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

While I've never been a huge fan of Ghost Recon games, I loved the online in this one and played many, many hours of it.  I even think that Chapter 2 was a great investment, as many hours were put into it as well.  Definately can't wait to play GRAW 2 in the Spring.

    Guitar Hero II

I was a huge fan of the first one and this one just took it another step further.  The co-op mode is great.  While I enjoyed the overall song list more in the first game, there were some songs in this one taht I absolutely love like Freebird.  Freebird is a monster of a song at over 9 minutes long.  I don't think I'll ever get this game over medium difficulty though.

    Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

This is a great game.  The Wii controls are fantastic and really add the depth in which you can get involved in this game.  The graphics may not be up the level of the 360 or the PS3 but the great gameplay more than make up for that.  I have a feeling that I'll be putting many hours into this one to finish it, which won't be any time soon.  :)

    Rainbow Six: Vegas

While I've enjoyed the RS games online in the past, this is the first one that has really drawn me in with it's single player campaign as well.  I found the writing of the story in the single player to be as good as any hollywood action movie.  The online is a lot of fun too.  I just wish the co-op mode was so stripped of the story elements found in the single player.  This game also has great graphics, controls and sound.

Now I know I've probably missed some and I may do another list, these are the games that I had the most fun playing this year.  I'm sure others will disagree with my list (what? no Oblivion?) but that's the fun part of making these best of lists.   Next entry will be my top movies of the year.

    NOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Wow I can't believe it's been nearly a month since I last posted here.  I guess that's what happens when so many new games come out at the same time.  Between playing Gears, COD3, Rainbow Six Vegas (been playing A LOT of this online), Guitar Hero II, Elite Beat Agents, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and of course everything on my Wii, I gues I haven't had a lot of time.

The length of time between posts isn't the reason for the title.  Nope...unfortunately the reason for the title is because I turned on my 360 the other day and received the red ring of death.  My 360 had been freezing up on me over the past few weeks every now and then so I saw this coming but it still sucks.  I took it back to the store (Future Shop) as I had the extended warranty.  Apparently they're just going to send it back to Microsoft, who will most likely replace it and then send me a new one.  Future Shop said this could take 4-6 weeks but I doubt it will take that long.  Apparently that's just what they're told to tell everyone.  So it looks like I won't be on Live for a little bit.  I was really hoping to finish some of my 360 games over the week between Christmas and New Years as I have it off.

Thankfully though, as I mentioned above, I do have my Wii to play with (twss).  So far I've played Wii Sports (duh..it came with the system), Zelda, Excite Truck, Trauma Centre, and Red Steel.  Zelda is fantastic, Wii Sports and Excite Truck are a lot of fun. Trauma Centre is fun and interesting but Red Steel is just crap.  Terrible controls and subpar graphics make it really hard to enjoy a game.  I've also got my Wii hooked up to the net through my DS usb wi-fi adapter.  I really have to give Nintendo credit for making it work with the Wii as well and not force customers to buy another accessory.

I think I'll keep this one short so that I will feel more compelled to post again in the near future.  But before I got I have to give a big CONGRATULATIONS to ICandee and Ruffneck on their recent engagement  You guys are the best and I wish you nothing but happiness for the future.
