July 24 A New Look and Other NewsNope not for my space (still thinking about that one), but the guys over at Teh Bias have given the site a new look and I think it looks fantastic. You should all go over and check it out.
In other news, I've been spending a lot of time over the past few days playing Cloning Clyde and I think it's an incredibly fun and addictive game. The puzzles do get quite challenging and finding all of the Killer Kenn dolls can add some frustration to the mix. I love being able to turn into different things such as chickens, frogs and a powder keg is cool. Last night I even turned into a stone. It proved to be of no worth though.
Lastly, there was new footage of Spider-Man 3 shown at Comic-Con this weekend of Venom. They've also released a new picture which I would like to share with you all now. Once I find a link for the footage, I'll post it here.
July 20 A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the ForumsAs we all know, the internt is littered with forums. The forums usually focus on a certain topic whether it be video games, comics, sports or porn. I'm pretty certain at least that the last one exists because where would the internet be without porn.
I think forums are a great tool for not only expressing your own opinions about topics but also allows you to read other people's opinions as well. If I'm ever having trouble with a game, whether it be connectivity or just trouble with a level, I check the forums for that game. For example, if I'm having problems getting a game going online ()this mainly happens with EA games), I can scoot over to the forums and see if others are having the same problems I am. When GRAW as first released, I couldn't connect to a game on Live. I checked the forums and sure enough others were having the same problem as me. It was my modem. I changed it the next day and was gaming that night.
I also like forums because it can give you a great chance to meet new and interesting people. Pretty much everyone I game with on Live is from Teh Bias. I started going there in February of this year. It's just a great place to hang out so to speak on the web. It covers all of the gaming systems and even has threads for non-gaming topics such as movies, new technology, books, etc. It has to be one of the best groups of people I've ever met. This community of Spacers has proved fruitful in the department as well. I've had nothing but positive experiences with you guys and the folk from Teh Bias on Live and I've even managed to make some great friends and I also look forward to more gaming.
Another forum I've started to frequent is Totally360. It is co-run by Rabid72 and is a very nice forum as well. They also have reviews and previews as well. Rabid72 posted in his blog that there are some changes coming to the site and I can't wait to see what they are.
One problem I do have with forums though is posting my thoughts on a certain topic at more than one forum. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't bother because it's going to be the same thing, but at the same time I like to hear what other's opinions are about what I may have to say. Therefore, it's worth it in the end.
One of the biggest problems that a forum can have is all of the dickheads that like to frequent them and ruin it for everyone else. This is especially true when it comes to the way certain males act towards female gamers. I know I'm not covering new ground here but please indulge me as I'd like to throw my two cents in about it. For some reason, when certain males see that a female also happens to be a gamer, a switch goes off in their heads that they should be come bullies or assholes. They embarass all of us guys who respect female gamers and enjoy playing with them. I know there are a ton of female gamers out there who can, and have, handed my ass to me in a hat in games on Live. I like to think that I can take the loss and appreciate that girl's skill in the game. If anything, it can help me become a better gamer.
I just found out today at Catalina PMS' space that over at Xbox.com they've created an all female forum. Do I think it was only because of this kind of behaviour that they've created it? No, but I'm sure it had something to do with it and that's rather sad.
Do I think this is a problem that can be solved in the near future, or ever for that matter? No, unfortunately it will never stop. However, it is up to us responsible gamers to make sure that this kind of treatment becomes as rare as possible, not only towards females but to all gamers in general. There's nothing wrong with a little playful trash talk, I've dished out and taken in my fair share of that, but there is a line that can be crossed.
Anyways, I've rambled on long enough and I apologize for the length of this post. I guess in closing I'd just like to know what forums you all like to frequent, whether it be for video games, movies, or what have you. Just remember forums can be a lot of fun and let's not ruin it for anyone by being a dick. July 19 Gaming TidbitsIt would appear that one of the masters of horror, Clive Barker, will be returning to the gaming genre with something he is working on with Codemasters called Jericho. I am a huge of Mr. Barker and his work. I love his movies, art work and the books of his that I have read. Candyman scared the crap out of me as an 11 year old when I first saw it. I couldn't go near a mirror for three weeks. I also loved his first game Undying. One of the creepiest games I have ever played.
As some of you may know, Valve has a huge megapackage of Half Life 2 and HL2 related goodies heading to the Xbox 360 and the PS3 either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. The package includes HL2, HL2 Episodes 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal. The trailers for Team Fortress 2 and Portal are now online. Both of these games look very cool. I love the art of TF2. I never played the original but I am really looking forward to this one. Portal looks like it will be a fun and different style of game. Even though I have HL2 and HL2 Episode 1 on the PC, I will still be picking this package up for sure.
I guess that it's for now. Hopefully I can find some new stuff for you guys soon. Looks like there is some very cool stuff coming out in the near future. July 17 Writer's Block Sucks!!I can't believe it's already been a week since my last post. I've been having a bit of trouble finding things to write about. I mean everyone else is talking about games that are coming out and well I don't really see the need for me to do it as well. So I thought I'd just write something that's a little off topic...not completly though. First of all, I hope you're all having a really great summer so far (or winter depending on where you live). There's a bit of a drought in terms of games coming out this summer. My wallet is breathing a sigh of relief over that one. Of all the games coming out this summer, only two have really piqued my interest and they are Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II ("LOTR:BFMEII") and NCAA Football 2007 ("NCAA").
I've already picked up LOTR:BFMEII and have almost completed the Good Campaign while mixing in a few skirmishes against the computer here and there. I must say that I think they did a great job converting the controls to being console friendly, i.e. no keyboard and mouse. While they are not as good as the keyboard and mouse combo, I'm still finding them easy enough to use after geting used to them. That didn't take too long. I've also played a couple of games online and they've been fun as well. We had a slight problem getting a game together (no surprise there considering it's an EA game...don't sue me EA) with three people. We had problems with the non-host players not being able to talk with each other or even see eachother for that matter. The solution, as stupid as this sounds, was to delete the person from your friend's list and then re-add them and start the game up again. It worked for us. I wish the problems in Burnout were that simple. The other thing I'm disappointed with in this game is the manual. It really serves no purpose as the tutorials give you the full controls layout. I highly recommend that you do the tutorials before playing the regular game. They are very useful.
NCAA comes out this week but I have been enjoying the demo very much. I decided to pick this up instead of Madden this year just for a change of pace. I may still get Madden but right now I am trying to decide which of the two hockey games I want to get. I have to get one of the...I am Canadian after all.
So other than those couple of games, mainly so far this summer I've just been hitting the theatres for the big movies as you all know from the reviews I've been posting. So far I have not been disappointed with any of the big summer blockbusters. This Friday I will be checking out Clerks II and I cannot wait to see it. The trailers are awesome. I love the end of them where Jay does the Buffalo Bill dance from Silence of the Lambs.
I'm also working my way through the two seasons of Battlestar Galactica. So far I've watched the mini-series and the first episode of season 1. I'm liking it so far but I think I like Firefly better.
Mainly though I've just been waiting for my two big trips. Boston and NYC during the week of July 31. My brother and I are going on a bit of a baseball trip as we are going to see games at Fenway and Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is even more important because it will be closing down in a couple years. Plus, while I am in NYC I'm going to be meeting up with Ruffneck from Tehbias, so I'm really looking forward to that as well
Then I'm off to Charlotte, NC for Labour Day weekend to see, and finally meet in person, ICandee and some of my other friends from Tehbias. I am really excited about this. Plus I've never been to Hitler City, oops....I mean, Charlotte before so that just adds to it.
So I hope you are all having a great summer and thanks for stopping bye. You stay classy world. July 09 Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's ChestCaptain Jack is back and in good form. I absolutely loved this movie from beginning to end. It had all of the best elements from the first movie such as the action, comedy and performances with some new stuff such as Bill Nighy as Davy Jones. He was great as usual.
I was a little worried going into this movie that Captain Jack character would get a little stale but he was enjoyable through the whole movie. Orlando Bloom was Orlando Bloom. Not a huge fan of his nor of Keira Knightley but they served their roles as expected. Jack Davenport as Commondore Norrington was great as you see how his life has gone to shit since the last movie.
The only downfall to this movie is you have to wait until next summer to see the conclusion since it is the third in the trilogy. The ending is a cliffhanger as can be expected much like Two Towers was in the LOTR trilogy. So while this was a great movie it wasn't quite compete but it definately leaves you wanting more. I suggest everyone go see this as soon as possible as it is definately worth it on the big screen.
July 03 Movie Review: Superman ReturnsSaw this on Saturday and I loved it. I probably didn't enjoy it as much as say the Spider-Man movies or Batman Begins but that's just because of personal bias towards those characters. I've never really been a huge Superman fan although I do enjoy the cartoons and Christopher Reeve movies.
This movie actually, more or less, does feel like an extension of those earlier movies, well the first two anyways. Sure the actors have changed but they all fill their roles well. Brandon Routh plays Superman/Clark Kent with the same quality as Christopher Reeve, although it was weird not seeing him in the suit. Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luthor although he was a much more ruthless character than the Gene Hackman version in the earlier movies. The only person I wasn't overly thrilled with was Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. She's definately no Margot Kidder. Although Erica Durance plays a great Lois Lane on Smallville.
I went and saw this on the Imax 3D. While the 3D was a good idea and some of the stuff looked decent, it wasn't really worth the effort. I've talked about this with a friend of mine and basically unless an Imax is nearby to your house, I wouldn't spend a lot of time travelling to one.
Basically, I think everyone should definately check this movie out as it is the rebirth of the Superman franchise much like Batman Begins. Plus this is just a great summer movie. |
